CS2 Skin Conditions Explained: From Factory New to Battle-Scarred

Every skin in CS2 has a float value between 0.00 and 1.00 that determines its visual condition. Understanding this system is fundamental to buying, selling, and trading skins effectively. Here is everything you need to know about skin conditions.

The Five Condition Tiers

ConditionAbbreviationFloat RangePrice Impact
Factory NewFN0.00 - 0.07Highest price, cleanest look
Minimal WearMW0.07 - 0.15Slight discount, minimal visible wear
Field-TestedFT0.15 - 0.38Best value, moderate wear
Well-WornWW0.38 - 0.45Noticeable wear, significant discount
Battle-ScarredBS0.45 - 1.00Heavy wear, lowest price

How Float Value Affects Appearance

The float value determines how much wear, scratching, and fading appears on the skin's texture. Lower float means a cleaner, more pristine appearance. However, the visual impact of float varies significantly between skins:

  • High-impact skins - Skins like Asiimov show dramatic differences between FN and BS, with large texture areas affected
  • Low-impact skins - Some skins like AK-47 Redline look nearly identical in FT and MW because their wear zones are minimal
  • Unique behavior - Certain skins like the AWP Asiimov cannot drop in FN at all, making MW the best possible condition

Float Value Within Conditions

Two skins can both be "Field-Tested" but look very different. A 0.15 FT (just barely FT) looks much cleaner than a 0.37 FT (nearly Well-Worn). Smart buyers check the exact float value, not just the condition label.

When Condition Barely Matters

Not every skin justifies paying for a better condition. Many dark-colored or heavily patterned skins show minimal visual difference across conditions. The AK-47 Redline, for instance, looks virtually identical from MW through FT. Similarly, hand wraps and gloves show less condition impact at normal gameplay distance than weapon skins do. Before paying a premium for FN or MW, compare screenshots across conditions to see if the visual improvement justifies the price difference.

Pro Tip: Check whether a skin can even drop in Factory New before overpaying. Some popular skins like AWP Asiimov have a minimum float above 0.07, meaning MW is the best condition available. Paying extra for low-float MW on these skins makes more sense than hunting for a nonexistent FN.
